Fire Department Operations
The City of Lincolnton Fire Department, comprised of 22 full-time employees and 11 volunteers, is responsible for minimizing the risk of fire and other hazards to the citizens of Lincolnton. The fire department provides response to and mitigation of fires, hazardous material incidents, motor vehicle accidents, confined space rescue, high angle rescue, assists EMS, and is responsible for handling other emergencies as they arise.
The Fire Department responds to an average of 1,300 calls per year. The average annual loss due to fire in Lincolnton is $190,000. An average of 375 commercial fire inspections are performed by the fire marshal each year. Other activities performed by the fire department are hydrant maintenance (flushed, serviced, painted, tested); public fire education programs (Fire Safety Fair at the Betsie Ross City Park); pre fire planning of commercial buildings; and equipment, building and grounds maintenance.
The Fire Department operates with three shifts. Each shift is comprised of five firefighters and one captain working 24 hours on and 48 hours off. On shift personnel are responsible for responding two Engines and Ladder within the City Limits as well as an Engine-Tanker to Automatic Aid calls in the surrounding County. Engine 1, Ladder 1, Engine 3, Brush 1, Car 1 and Car 2 are currently housed at Station 1, located at 116 W. Sycamore Street. Engine 2 is housed at the Boger City Volunteer Fire Department located at 410 McAllister Road.
