Cultural Arts A World Apart

AfricansIncorporated in 1785, Lincolnton is the second oldest town west of the Catawba River. Our heritage is rich. History buffs will relish the opportunity to visit numerous Revolutionary War and Civil War sites, and a stroll down our tree lined streets reveals no shortage of historic homes from the nineteenth century. Over 200 years of history are just waiting to be discovered!

Lincolnton is equally acclaimed for its diverse array of cultural activities. Indeed, the sheer number of such opportunities is remarkable for a community of Lincolnton's size. Thanks to the creative vision and dedicated efforts of countless volunteers, Lincolnton has been the host of historical celebrations and community theatre productions, of literary, art, and photography competitions, of North Carolina Symphony concerts and Broadway entertainers, and of regional and local performers.

Cultural Center

Spearheading these efforts is the Lincoln Cultural Center, a beautiful historic landmark in the heart of downtown. The Center houses Lincolnton's first historical museum and a performance hall for live theatre productions, for concerts, and lectures. In addition, the Cultural Center features exhibition galleries, and studio and classroom space.

The Lincoln Cultural Center is home to six distinct arts and culturally related organizations-

The Lincoln Chapter of the North Carolina Symphony provides an annual concert by the renowned North Carolina Symphony, as well as an educational outreach concert for the county's school children.

The Lincoln Arts Council funds artists and arts programs, and also sponsors arts education programming.

The Lincoln County Museum and Historical Association creates new exhibits on Lincoln County's rich history on a regular basis and seeks to preserve the history and artifacts of Lincoln County's past.

The Lincoln Theatre Guild stages four productions on an annual basis, ranging from farce, to serious drama and musicals.

The Lincoln Community Concert Association hosts four professional performing artists each year to provide enrichment for the entire family. Performances take place at Lincoln County's civic auditorium, The Citizens Center.

The Lincoln Choral Guild performs several concerts each year, providing an avenue for singers in the community to perform together.
