The City of Lincolnton created the Parks and Recreation Department in 2007 and hired Richard Haynes as it’s first Director. Prior to this, he served as the Assistant Director of Public Works and Utilities. Richard holds a BS in Public Management from Appalachian State University, Boone, NC. He is married to Cindy, and they have three children Brooke, Jake, and Luke.

Serving in the parks and recreation field since October 1999 as a Recreation Program Coordinator, the City of Lincolnton hired Nathan to fill this role in the newly created Parks and Recreation Department. Nathan’s primary responsibility is to plan, promote, and organize recreation programs and activities.

On July 28, 2013, the recreation department suffered severe flood damage at Betty G. Ross Park. While clean-up and repairs are still taking place, we are glad to report that our recreation offices and portions of the park have reopened. Also, our gym floor suffered significant damage and will need to be repaired. There has been no timetable mentioned on when the gym will reopen to the public. Please call for updates.

Due to the flood that occured on July 28, 2013, the pool will be closed for the remaining Summer season. Sorry for any inconveniences. We will reopen for the 2014 season.

The pool at William M. Lentz Center will open Memorial Day weekend and remain open through Labor Day
