June 10, 2018, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM @ Battleground Park, Jeb Seagle Road
Lincolnton and its early settlers played a pivotal role in the American Revolution when neighbors were pitted against one another as 1000 loyalists and about 400 patriots clashed in The Battle of Ramsour’s Mill on June 20, 1780. The casualties were high and equally divided, with an estimated seventy men killed and more than two hundred wounded. The loyalist defeat to a much smaller patriot militia is said to have prevented General Cornwallis from winning North Carolina for the British crown. Today, the patriot victory is commemorated each year with a living history weekend of Revolutionary War reenactments and music, period cooking, firearms demonstrations, battle site tours and a wreath-laying ceremony at the mass gravesite.
The Battle of Ramsour's Mill Reenactment celebrates historic Battleground Park as the site of this little known, historically significant battle and the settlers that won the patriot victory on June 20, 1780.
