Due to the significant winter storm expected to impact our area beginning Saturday evening, January 24, 2026, the City of Lincolnton Parks & Recreation Department is announcing the closure of all facilities and parks to ensure the safety of our residents and staff.
Closure Schedule
- Effective: Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 5:00 PM
- Duration: All facilities will remain closed through Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at 11:00 AM.
- Reopening: We anticipate reopening on a two hour delay Tuesday, January 27, 2026 (pending weather conditions and safety inspections. Please monitor our official social media channels for updates).
Impacted Facilities & Parks
The following locations will be closed to the public:
- Lentz Recreation Center: All indoor gym activities, volleyball, basketball, and racquetball are canceled.
- Betty G. Ross Park: All trails, courts, playgrounds, and athletic fields are closed.
- City Park & First Federal Park: Facilities and access points to the Rail Trail will be closed.
- Highland Drive Park: All trails, playgrounds, and athletic fields are closed.
- Marcia H. Cloninger Rail Trail: For your safety, we advise against using the trail during the storm due to the high risk of falling limbs and icy conditions.
Program & Event Cancellations
- All youth sports practices and games scheduled for Sunday, January 25 and Monday, January 26, 2026 are cancelled. Please keep in touch with your child's coach, as they will relay additional information.
Safety Advisory: With heavy ice and sleet accumulations forecast, please stay home and avoid travel. Icy trees and power lines in our parks can be extremely dangerous during and immediately following the storm. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation as we prioritize the safety of the Lincolnton community.
