With a winter storm approaching our area, the City of Lincolnton Public Works Department is working hard to ensure our roads remain safe and passable. To do this effectively, we need your help. ________________________________________
The Request: Keep Streets Clear
We are asking all residents to park all vehicles off the street and in driveways starting Saturday afternoon.
When vehicles are parked along the curb, it creates several challenges for our crews:
• Plow Access: Our large plow trucks require a wide path to navigate safely.
• Effective Clearing: Parked cars prevent us from clearing snow all the way to the curb, often leaving "islands" of frozen slush and ice that create hazards later.
• Accident Prevention: Low visibility and slick conditions make it difficult for heavy equipment to maneuver around parked cars.
Important Reminders for Residents
• Safety First: Please stay off the roads during the height of the storm unless travel is absolutely necessary.
• Sidewalks: If you are able, please clear the sidewalk in front of your home to help neighbors and mail carriers.
• Driveway Windrows: When shoveling your driveway, try to pile snow to the right (when facing the street). This helps prevent the plow from pushing a heavy wall of snow back across your freshly cleared entrance.
Note: Priority will be given to main thoroughfares, emergency routes, and hospital access before moving into residential neighborhoods.
Also, the Winter Storm may affect the collection of solid waste for the week of January 26-30. A revised collection schedule will be announced later when management determines conditions are safe enough to put solid waste collection vehicles on the road.
